Mark spent over 9 years in college baseball as a player and coach after being raised in Kankakee, IL and attended Herscher High School. After high school, Walther attended Parkland College and was a relief pitcher for the Cobras during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In his freshman season, he led the team in appearances and earned run average out of the bullpen. In 2009, Walther was the team leader in saves as the Cobras went on to win the 2009 NJCAA National Championship.

After Parkland, Walther transferred to the University of Southern Indiana, where he was a relief pitcher. In his first season with the Screaming Eagles, Walther played a big role in capturing USI’s first NCAA DII National Championship as he led the bullpen in appearances.

After his playing career was finished; Walther began his coaching career at Parkland College (NJCAA) in 2012-2013, where he was an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Walther worked primarily with outfielders while assisting with pitchers, headed the recruiting efforts, and coordinated all camps.

Following the 2013 season for Parkland, Mark then accepted a position with the University of Indianapolis to become the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Greyhounds. During Walther’s time on the UIndy bench, the Greyhounds combined to go 129-88 (.594), making a pair of NCAA Midwest Regional appearances and capturing one conference championship. Nine UIndy pitchers were named All-GLVC under Walther’s tutelage, including 2015 GLVC Co-Pitcher of the Year.

For the past year, Walther has been working directly with Pro X and Velocity Increase Program (VIP) as an Instructor before becoming the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations.
